General travel advice - ROAD (private vehicle)
For visitors to the town travelling by road, the primary means of getting to Hartlepool is via the A19, which runs parallel to the coast roughly between York and Newcastle upon Tyne. All exits to Hartlepool are clearly posted, as are the routes into town.

If travelling from the north, turn off left at the A179 for Hartlepool. If travelling from the south, turn off right at the A689. If approaching from the west, Teesside International Airport or travelling on the A1(M), turn onto the A66 and follow it until it intersects the A19 (near Middlesbrough).

Coach services to and from Hartlepool are frequent, and run by a number of operators. Pick-up and drop-off points are generally central to the town, although some will start and stop journeys in the outer areas of the town if requested.

Hartlepool is well supported by local buses, both for internal journeys and for short trips to other parts of the region, such as the nearby former-colliery towns, the city of Durham and Teesside.
